Sushi Cats on a sushi board

If you are someone who appreciates the finer things in life, such as good wine, delicious sushi and adorable cats, then Neko Sushi is something you definitely need to see.

Neko Sushi you say? Cats in Sushi? When did the hunter become the hunted?

Fortunately for all our cat loving readers, this isn’t exactly the case.

The fantastic photo and video series created by Nekozushi the brain child of Tange & Nakimushi Peanuts have created something truly beautiful.

Sushi Cats : Truly a sight to behold

The series follows fabulous beautiful felines dressed up as mythical “Sushi Cats”.  Sushi Cats, believed to be creatures of magic, luck, and wonder, pop up in the gaps between time and space and bring with them good fortune for all who cross their paths. Take a look at this wonderfully illustrated video to know more :

The beautifully orchestrated photoshoot features our favorite felines dressed up in various outfits and placed upon stacks of sticky rice, fish, and other condiments. As if this wasn’t enough, this deliciously feline garb was punctuated with leeks, lobsters, omelets, chopsticks, and even school bags.

Since their inception by Tange & Nakimushi Peanuts, the adorable felines have been sold as key chains, posters and many more accessories on various websites, from eBay to Urban Outfitters and more recently, Amazon.

sushi cats in space

This isn’t the first time the Japanese have combined a love for the cute and furry with everyday accessories, however. Japan is full of locations featuring cute animals embroidered on everyday objects. From socks to pencils to even trains. One would be hard pressed to take the kawaii [cute] factor out of Japan. And the culture reflects it.

Various shopping malls and even stores located in subway stations are littered with stores, sometimes exclusively dealing with products featuring more furry and cute friends. This is most prevalent in places like Ikebukuro which has a large concentration of animal cafes. And when I say animal cafes, I don’t mean cafes dedicated to just cats or dogs.

In fact, just within Tokyo, you can come across a wide range of animal cafes, from your regular run of the mill cat cafes to dog cafes, hedgehog cafes, rabbit cafes, monkey cafes, otter cafes, owl and bird cafes, and even penguin cafes.

Tokyo has it all. And, if after satiating your desire for Sushi Cats, you decide to come to Japan, do stop by these cafes and give them a shot. And if even afterward, you find yourself craving sushi, why not take the sushi experience with you?
