Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets of nori
  • 1 cucumber cut in long strips
  • 1 julienned carrot
  • 1 red or yellow bell pepper cut
  • 40 grams of baby spinach
  • 100 grams of sushi grade salmon

Instructions:

  1. Slice salmon into thin, equal slices
  2. Lay one sheet of plastic wrap over the bamboo rolling mat
  3. Place the nori with the shiny and smooth side down
  4. Cover the nori evenly with sliced salmon, leaving the top ¼ of nori empty
  5. Place the strips of cucumber, bell pepper, carrots and baby spinach in the center
  6. Lifting the bamboo mat with the plastic wrap, nori and salmon with your thumb and index finger, while using your other finger securing the ingredients and the wrap/roll
  7. Keep rolling and once reach the empty nori, dab with cold water and stick the roll together.
  8. Voila! A protein packed sushi without rice!

Japanese Sushi Without Rice: Temaki

If you are interested in making the Japanese sushi without rice, Temaki, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Cut the nori into 4 smaller pieces.
  2. Place the 1 sheet of nori onto the palm of your hand with one corner point towards your fingers in a diamond shape.
  3. Place a few leaves of baby spinach.
  4. Place the 1~2 slices of salmon on top of the baby spinach and then a few strips of carrot, cucumber and bell pepper in the same direction as the top corner.
  5. Pull in the right corner and fold towards the left side and then tuck inside the ingredient.
  6. Fold the left corner over the right side and try to close up the bottom the sushi.
  7. The nori should end up looking like a cone. And you are done!
  8. It is recommended to eat it as soon as possible.

You can easily replace the salmon with sweet potato for similar appearance or avocado for healthy fat. Both options are delicious and great. In addition, the sushi without rice is very easy to make and request very little skills. Yay for sushi without rice!
